6 out of 10 Venezuelan students do not have specialized laboratories and libraries

The University Observatory (OBU) revealed on Monday that 6 out of 10 Venezuelan students do not have or do not have enough specialized laboratories and libraries that they need to carry out their school activities in the universities in the country.

Through social media, OBU highlighted that 97% of students in the country’s public institutions do not receive scholarships, 92% do not receive public sector bonuses and 96% do not have a dining service.

The Enobu 2023 survey, carried out by the observatory to verify the conditions of Venezuelan educational institutions, indicated that 91% of academics do not have water service and 86% do not have continuous electricity service. In addition, 85% of universities do not have bathrooms that work regularly and 95% of institutions lack Internet connection service..

86% of Venezuelan students also do not have university transportation, so 32% of them and 39% of teachers have to walk to their schools.

61% of teachers and 69% of students present three or more symptoms related to depression, according to Enobu 2023.

The observatory also discovered that 82% of teachers and 69% of students have reduced the portions of food they consume per day.

The OBU also noted that 56% of Venezuelan students need to work to pay for their studies.

Over the past five years, the publication of scientific articles has declined. According to OBU, 49% of teachers did not produce any such work.
