Prison Reform Symposium ongoing in St. Kitts & Nevis

“So far, so good”.

That’s how the Project Director of the IMPACT Justice Project, Professor Velma Newton, has described an ongoing Symposium on Prison Reform in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Today is the final day of the conference, and as Professor Newton explains, it will feature a virtual presentation from Barbados’ Acting Superintendent of Prisons, DeCarlo Payne.

Meanwhile, Jamaica’s Director of Public Prosecution, Queen’s Counsel Paula Llewellyn, believes countries in the region need to make greater efforts to ensure ex-inmates are given a second chance after serving their terms.

Speaking with the media on the sidelines of the Symposium, she made a call for proper correctional facilities to be introduced.
