Matura scrap iron dealer shot and killed

A 47-year-old scrap iron dealer was shot and killed while standing with relatives on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Rodney Maraj, 47, from Soodeen Trace, Matura.

Police say around 7:30 pm on Saturday, Maraj was with his family at home when his son saw a man running towards them, with a gun in his hand. The suspect pointed the firearm towards his father, who was sitting on a chair and fired several shots. 

As everyone ran away, witnesses saw another man kicking Maraj in the face as he lay on the ground, wounded. Relatives called the Matura police station for assistance but Maraj died at the scene.
