T&T nationals now need ETA to enter Thailand

Citizens of Trinidad and Tobago will need to obtain an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) permit before entering Thailand.

The authorities in the second-largest economy in Southeast Asia said that the new measure will begin rolling out on December 1 and will be fully implemented by June 2025.

T&T nationals do not require a visa to go to Thailand.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that T&T passport holders will soon need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to visit the United Kingdom. That measure begins on January 8, 2025, and sees citizens from 48 other countries and territories also having to do the same.

Officials in Thailand said the implementation of the ETA had become necessary due to increases in tourism and to curb illegal immigration. Among the Caribbean countries affected by the measure are Jamaica and Dominica. The other countries affected include the United States, Canada, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Peru, Panama, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.

The proposed ETA will be free of charge for a stay of up to 60 days for tourism purposes and Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the system will enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of screening and tracking foreigners entering Thailand. – Information taken from CMC
