Government Ministers Meet With Scrap Iron Dealers Association Executive

A Government Cabinet sub-committee met with the members of the Trinidad and Tobago Scrap Iron Dealers Association at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries on Wednesday to discuss the plaguing issue of theft relating to the scrap iron industry.

President of TTSIDA, Allan Ferguson, presented to the Committee a proposal of temporary measures recommended to address the theft of scrap metals.

The Government indicated that it will have to take urgent action to address the criminality and criminal elements plaguing the sector as the increased levels of wanton theft are presenting serious national security risks.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley indicated that he had asked the Attorney General to consider drafting legislation to prevent the sale of used metals (scrap iron) in Trinidad and Tobago.
