Boric discussed Venezuela’s political crisis with Antonio Guterres

He President of Chile, Gabriel Boricand the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, addressed this Monday the crises in Venezuela and Haiti and the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, in a private meeting within the framework of the 79th General Assembly of the UN.

“We share the need to promote multilateralism to face the challenges of today’s world,” the president said at the end of the meeting.

Boric, who will speak at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, said that this It involves nations acting “collectively and in a coordinated manner” to “move forward together” on issues such as global security, the regional crises in Venezuela and Haiti, and the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.

“Moving towards a UN that has the tools that today’s world demands is a duty of those of us who govern, and that is what we are working on,” the president concluded.

Boric and Guterres have held several meetings

Since coming to power in March 2022, Boric and Guterres have held several meetings, always in good harmony. In November last year, the Secretary-General arrived in Chile to travel to Antarctica on an expedition to study the effects of climate change in the extreme south.

In May, the two met again in Chile, at the La Moneda palace, within the framework of the biannual session of the UN Chief Executives Board, which took place in the capital.

During his trip to New York, Boric also met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday, and in the coming days he will also meet with his Guatemalan counterpart Bernardo Arévalo de León and with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
