Colombia would allow Venezuelans waiting for refuge to work

The Colombian government is evaluating the possibility of allow the Venezuelans waiting for refuge work with a safe-conduct pass, reported Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo.

The decision comes after meetings on September 14 with border governors, in response to the increase in asylum requests by Venezuelan citizens, reports the Andes Journal.

Ana Karina Garcia, director of the Together We Can Foundation, On September 9, he submitted a similar petition to the Foreign Ministry.

In a statement received on September 24, García shared that the Foreign Ministry indicated that its functions are governed by Decree 1067, which does not prohibit work with a safe conduct pass.

However, he stressed that Resolution 1980 of the Ministry of Labor establishes the documents required for foreigners to work legally.

The chancellor decided to send the request to the Ministry of Labor, and García called on that agency, Migración Colombia and President Gustavo Petro to the application is approved.

Its objective is to ensure that those seeking protection in Colombia have access to labor rights while their asylum application is being evaluated.
