TTDF Officers Held For Attempting To Smuggle Contraband Into Prison
Two members of the Defence Force were arrested on Tuesday after they tried to smuggle contraband into the Maximum Security Prison, Arouca.
TTT News understands that two warrant officers, one assigned to the Special Forces and the other assigned to the Teteron Barracks, were held around 11am.
It’s alleged that during a routine search, prison officials found 1.534 kilogrammes of compressed marijuana in a duffle bag.
The men also had in their possession several cartons of cigarettes, a quantity of plant-like substance, cigarette lighters, bottles of pepper sauce, WiFi hot spot devices, packets of razor blades, batteries, shaver machines, and wireless headsets among other items.
The officers were cautioned about their actions, and the Arouca Police was contacted.
In a press release, Acting Commissioner of Prisons, Shamshudeen Mohammed, said while he is elated over the discovery, it is also regrettable as measures for future courtesy visits would be revised. He added that he is working closely with all authorities involved with the ongoing investigation.
