Caracas residents came out this Saturday in different parts of the capital to protest against the result of the presidential elections on July 28, in which the electoral body proclaimed the victory of Nicolás Maduro. This result has been questioned by the opposition and a large part of the international community.

The protest, called by the majority opposition – grouped in the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) – was carried out under the “swarm” modality, so that citizens could “appear and disappear” quickly for security reasons, as explained. the opposition leader María Corina Machado.

The former deputy, who has kept her whereabouts hidden while the government labels her a terrorist, had an indirect participation in these demonstrations, through a recording that citizens played.

«Each record (of voting) contains thousands, millions of stories, of steps, of tears, each record is a testimony of our strength, courage and our determination to be free and equal, each record contains the truth of popular sovereignty expressed in every vote,” Machado said via audio.

Likewise, he maintained that every day the Maduro government is “more alone, isolated and weak, its violent attacks are a sign, evidently, of desperation.”

“In the face of brutal repression, we have to continue taking care of ourselves and staying organized intelligently, this new phase is called the swarm strategy, our citizen protest evolves so that it has the lowest possible risk,” he commented.

This was the first demonstration held by the opposition since its standard bearer in the elections, Edmundo González Urrutia, left the country for Spain, where he has requested asylum and where he has received, in the last three weeks, the recognition of the European Parliament and of other international organizations as “elected president” in the Venezuelan elections.

“We went to elections two months ago and we won, Venezuela won, the vote won, the Venezuelan people won, they confirmed it through some minutes”Génesis, one of the protesters who was in a square in eastern Caracas, told EFE.

Meanwhile, university professor Oscar Arnal said that every day “more countries realize the irrefutable truth.”

“We are at a very interesting point because, every day, more and more countries realize the irrefutable truth, that we have the minutes, that the minutes are published and that we are an impressive majority in the country,” he indicated at the demonstration. .

The ruling Chavismo also called for a demonstration throughout the country this Saturday to celebrate Maduro’s “great victory” in the presidential elections.

Dozens of motorcyclists traveled several kilometers west of Caracas honking as a sign of support for the president, as well as to defend “peace”, reject fascism and violence, in reference to allegations of electoral fraud by the PUD.
