Santa Cruz murder victim identified

An attack in Santa Cruz on Sunday evening ended in the death of one man and the wounding of two others. Reports said that Santa Cruz police responded to a report of gunshots in Cantaro Village, near Choonkies Supermarket, at around 5.35 am. On reaching the scene, police found a black Suzuki Ciaz with several bullet holes and blood on the front passenger and driver’s side seats. 

Officers were later told by residents that three men who were in the car were taken to hospital by villagers. However one of the victims, a man identified as Brian Phillip, died from wounds at around 12.45 am on Monday. The remaining two victims are in stable condition. Investigators found a grey Nissan Tiida idling on Santa Lucia Boulevard, Sam Boucaud, which was believed to be used by the gunmen. The car contained two spent 5.56 spent. Crime Scene Investigators visited the scene and found two 5.56 spent shells, a spent 9 mm shell, a live round of 9 mm ammunition.

Region II homicide detectives are continuing enquiries.
