They recover the body of the last missing person

During the night of Sunday, September 29, The authorities recovered the body of Onidenia Cárdenas, affectionately known as “La Gringa”who was the last person missing after the sinking of the barge “Chantase G” in Lake Maracaibo, Zulia state.

The body of the crew’s cook was found inside the boat that sank on September 26 off the coast of Tía Juana, Simón Bolívar municipality, according to a source from the newspaper. The Zulia Regional.

After the lifting process of the oil vessel, The authorities found Cárdenas’s body in a state of decomposition after four days in the depths of Lake Maracaibo.

The woman, originally from Cabimas, lived in the Constitución sector of the Barrio Libertad parish of Lagunillas, and was a respected person in the aforementioned community for undertaking social work in favor of the neighbors.

What caused the sinking of the oil barge in Lake Maracaibo?

The oil barge, belonging to the Sosca company, set sail on the night of September 25 towards Block 1 of Station 10-1 to repair gas and oil pipelines.

When the barge, which had a total of 25 people on board, arrived at the location on Lake Maracaibo, the weather conditions began to worsen.

Survivors reported that they were affected by strong winds. As they tried to head to a safer location, they began to notice water entering the barge from the stern and starboard.

The state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) confirmed that The sinking of the oil barge was “a product of the bad weather conditions that affected the area at the time of the accident.”

Those who died in the accident were identified as Wilfredo Camacaro, Edgar Urrieta, Paulino Pedroza Parra, Juan Noroño, Isneida Cárdenas and an official from the Bolivarian National Guard.
