Colombia has no morals to talk about Venezuela

The Nicolás Maduro regime said on Tuesday that Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo He has no “morality to speak” about Venezuela.

This, after he reiterated that Gustavo Petro’s government will not recognize Maduro’s supposed victory in the July 28 elections until any doubt about the legitimacy of the results is dispelled.

«Chancellor Murillo, neither you nor any Colombian institution have the right, much less the morality, to talk about Venezuela. It is not a matter that concerns you“It’s definitely not your problem.” the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean country, Yván Gil, said on Telegram.

In this sense, he urged the cessation of “crude, headline-seeking interference that only the paramilitary and fascist right enjoys.”

The Maduro government has attempted to decouple Colombian foreign policy regarding Venezuela from Petro’s position.

«Although the Colombian oligarchy, allied with its gringo bosses, dislikes revolutionary governments, like that of President Nicolás Maduro, here the Venezuelan people spoke clearly and loudly. We owe no explanations to you or your decrepit Congress, Dedicate yourself to your problems, which you must have enough,” Gil added.

Colombia asks that doubts be clarified

Murillo, during a debate in the Senate on the Executive’s position regarding the Venezuelan elections, also assured that Colombia proposes that, in order to dispel any doubts, the process of publishing voting minutes must take place and that there is impartial international oversight.

Gustavo Petro warned: “There will be no recognition”

Furthermore, Colombian President Gustavo Petro recently noted in an interview with CNN that Colombia and Brazil have a common position. “If there is no presentation of minutes, there is no recognition,” he said.

These two countries have tried to mediate in the crisis that Venezuela is experiencing since the National Electoral Council announced Maduro’s supposed victory. To a moderate extent, Mexico has participated.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Unitary Platform insists that its candidate Edmundo González Urrutia won the elections. To support his claim, he published 83.5% of the minutes he collected during the elections on a website.

Last week, after a meeting with his Colombian counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Gil assured that Venezuela maintains “constant” communication channels with the Petro Executive.
