Mother among three held for

The 19-year-old mother of a one-year-old child and two other people have been arrested in connection with the abuse of the child.

The child, who was being treated at the San Fernando General Hospital up to late yesterday, had marks of violence about the body.

ACP Wayne Mystar yesterday said he received a phone call about an incident involving the one-year-old child. He said a video and graphic images were also shared with him, prompting immediate action.

The video showed two children lying on a mattress sleeping when someone began stomping on them, awakening them. The children began screaming and crying. The video is 17 seconds long.

“Upon receiving the distressing footage, a team consisting of the Child Protection Unit, a task force, and Emergency Health Services (EHS) was dispatched to the Claxton Bay area,” Mystar said.

Medical professionals from the EHS did an initial examination at the scene and determined the child needed further attention.

The child’s mother, her sister and the sister’s boyfriend are helping the Child Protection Unit with the investigation.
