MarÃa Corina Machado, leader of the opposition in Venezuela, denounced the arrest of Rafael RamÃrez, mayor of Maracaibo, by officials of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin).
«We denounce to the world how the regime’s repressive wave is intensifying. Now against Rafael RamÃrez Colina, acting mayor of Maracaibo, the second largest city in Venezuela, and other members of his work team,” Machado wrote in his X account.

He considered that the arrest is part of a wave of terror established by the government of Nicolás Maduro.
«The regime seeks to break the will and divide the enormous social movement that expressed itself on July 28 and that defeated tyranny. “They are not going to achieve it,” said Machado.
And he added: «Each prisoner and persecuted person belongs to all Venezuelans and we all fight for their freedom. “In this cause, in this team, no one is left behind.”
He demanded the release of RamÃrez and members of his team.
«The world must act now to elevate him to Ripe the cost of its brutal repression,” he said.
Persecution in the country increased after the presidential elections of July 28, in which the opposition claims it won in a landslide.
