Spain will be able to assist the two Spaniards detained in Venezuela

José Manuel Albares, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, reported this Friday that the government of Nicolás Maduro finally authorized Spain to provide consular attention to the two Spaniards arrested last September for their alleged involvement in a plot to destabilize Venezuela.

«Venezuela has told us by verbal note that we can exercise the appropriate consular protection” as had been demanded since his arrest became known, the official expressed before the Foreign Commission of the Congress of Deputies.

Caracas announced the arrest of the two Spaniards in the midst of an escalation of tension with Madrid, after the arrival in Spain of the former Venezuelan opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, who has requested political asylum in the European country after denouncing electoral fraud in Venezuela.

TO José María Basoa Valdovinos and Andrés Martínez Adasme They are accused of being part of an operation that aimed to carry out “terrorist” acts in Venezuela, including assassinating Nicolás Maduro.

Spanish government sources have denied that Basoa Valdovinos and Martínez Adasm are related to any Spanish public organization, including the National Intelligence Center, as stated by the Maduro regime.

Albares assured this Friday that both foreigners are “unfairly detained” and made it clear that he will take “all the steps so that as soon as possible they are where they have always had to be, in our country, with their families.”
