An attempted unauthorized boarding of a support vessel at the Gulfstream wreck site near Sea Lots was thwarted on Friday night by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG).
Unidentified individuals tried to access the vessel, triggering a swift response from security forces stationed at the site.
The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI) later confirmed the incident, noting that during the confrontation, an exchange of gunfire occurred.
One Coast Guard officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury and is currently receiving medical care.
The MEEI assured the public that the Gulfstream wreck site remains under strict protection by the TTCG and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
The ministry emphasised that the safety of personnel involved in the operation is a top priority.
In coordination with the Ministry of National Security, the TTPS, TTCG, and the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, the MEEI has implemented heightened security measures to safeguard the site and ensure the ongoing safety of those involved in the operation.
