The director of Civil Protection, Juan Carlos Oti Paituvisaid that the new group, which also includes park rangers, is qualified, trained and equipped to “help the people of Bolivia” in “the forest fires.”

On September 30, the Bolivian government declared a “national disaster” and opened itself to receiving more international support to contain the environmental crisis, the worst recorded in its territory since 2019.

What is happening with the fires in Bolivia?

They are a recurring problem at this time of year and fire is attributed in many cases to ‘chaqueos’, which are controlled burning to enable land for planting or grazing, in addition to being a low-cost form of clearing.

Likewise, something that has aggravated the forest fires in Bolivia is the persistent drought that several of the forested areas are going through, despite some isolated rains that have given a respite in several of the affected areas.
