Last week the team at ASC Portsmouth were honoured to take the crew out from Portsmouth’s RNLI station for a sailing and safe dinghy recovery session. We are extremely excited to be working with the station, sharing expertise to provide opportunities for the crew and our young people.

The ASC team met with the Portsmouth RNLI Station to discuss a new local partnership, working with one of the most respected charities on the sea. The crew at Portsmouth RNLI Station came to the centre on their training night to receive some dinghy-specific training from our knowledgeable team of instructors.

The session began with learning the basics of boat control and how to turn the boat and finished with a planned capsize drill, this allowed for the crew to learn how to recover a capsized dinghy from in the water, and what it feels like to be in a capsized dinghy.

The feedback from the session was great, with one crew member saying, “we had the best time, the instructors were so knowledgeable and created a great atmosphere.” It was excellent to see how engaged the crew were in the session, and how much fun they were to host.

The team at the Portsmouth Station have kindly invited all our Portsmouth Sail Training Trust young people, from nine different schools across Portsmouth, to visit the RNLI centre for a tour of their life saving fleet. The young people will also be engaging in challenging games and activities which will see them getting competitive in some relay races that involve dressing up in all the RNLI kit.

The team at ASC Portsmouth had a lovely time taking the Portsmouth RNLI Crew out and are looking forward to the exciting opportunities this partnership has to offer.
