This was explained by the analyst on border issues and former mayor of the Bolívar municipality in Táchira, William Gómez, who explained that there are legal agreements established between Venezuela and Colombia that allow this.

“The Treaty of Tonchalá allows Venezuelans to cross in transit through Cúcuta and enter Venezuela without having to stamp a passport at the immigration offices in San Antonio del Táchira,” the analyst told the newspaper Los Andes.

He indicated that a viable option for Venezuelans is to reach Colombia by air to the airports of El Dorado, in Bogotá or Camilo Daza, in Cúcuta, and then from there cross the border by land through San Antonio del Táchira.

That is to say, Those who seek to enter the country with an expired passport can do so through the Simón Bolívar, Francisco de Paula Santander, Atanasio Girardot and Unión international bridges.without the need to obtain a safe passage.

Venezuelans cannot enter the country with an expired passport

Venezuelans who wish to enter or leave the country by air must have a valid passport and identification card.in accordance with new regulations established at the end of September by the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) and the Administrative Service for Identification, Migration and Immigration (Saime).

If you do not have a valid Venezuelan passport, Citizens must request a Travel Document from the Venezuelan consulate or embassy accredited abroad. and register it with the airline at least 72 hours before boarding.

Only those Venezuelans with dual nationality and those who have legal residence in other countries will be able to enter the country with an expired passport and without the need to process a safe passage.

In addition, the Mercosur Convention remains in force, allowing travel to member countries only with an ID. However, this case only applies to direct and non-stop flights from member countries. Currently, only flights from Bolivia are available for Venezuela.
