Was the inauguration of Nicolás Maduro brought forward to November 10?

  • Oct, Thu, 2024

A video by TikToker Marcela Rojas went viral on TikTok in which she presents a Christmas schedule that advances the dates of the December festivities starting on October 16 and in which she points out that as part of that schedule Nicolás Maduro will take office on the 10th. November. But the information is false.

@marcelarojasnoticias Nicolás Maduro says that he will take the presidency on November 10, 2024, what do you think about this news ##news##marcenoticias##breaking##policy##ripe##Venezuela##venezuelanews ##breakingtime🚨 ##greenscreen ♬ original sound – MarceNoticias

First of all, it must be said that there is no official communication indicating that the December celebrations will begin from the second half of October, which could have a place in part of the group considering that Maduro ordered – on September 2 – bring forward Christmas from October 1st with the respective decoration in public organizations and facilities.

“What do you think of this news, Nicolás Maduro is going to position himself (sic) as president on November 10 this year,” reads the still image that Marcela Rojas refers to in the audiovisual piece.

However, by constitutional mandate, the candidate elected in the presidential elections must take office before the National Assembly on January 10 of the first year of his constitutional term (article 231 of the Magna Carta).

Rojas’ video, uploaded to his TikTok account, was reproduced by others users on that platformas well as in instagram.

Although Rojas is seen saying that Maduro will take office on November 10, in the schedule set in the background the name of Edmundo González Urrutia is clearly read as the person who would be sworn in on November 10.

Regarding the “beginning” of Christmas starting on October 1st, ordered by Maduro and which the national public sector assumed as the norm, someone with genius came up with the idea of making a schedule (as a joke) modifying the dates that are celebrated. in December and included the inauguration on January 10, 2025, moving it forward two months. In the supposed program the name of Edmundo González Urrutia is seen as the person who would take over for the 2025-2031 constitutional mandate.

In the text of the supposed schedule you can see the word notice with a red background and superimposed: ASSETS 05October2024. It then reads: «Dear neighbors, considering the advance of the dates (Christmas or December) in Venezuela, it is reported that the calendar is as follows:

October 16: Christmas bonus masses begin
October 24: Christmas Eve Mass
October 25: Birth of the Baby Jesus
October 28: Day of the Innocent Saints
October 31: end of the year 2024
November 1: welcome to the year 2025
November 10: inauguration of the new president of Venezuela Edmundo González Urrutia.

This complete text (not fully visible in the video) circulated in the first days of October in text format on WhatsApp. Even part of it reached X:

It is concluded that the material that originally ran on WhatsApp was the raw material for the video of Marcela Rojas, who, however, goes out of the script of the Christmas calendar to point out that Maduro, and not González Urrutia, will be the one who takes office on November 10, according to the Christmas schedule ahead.

It is false, then, that the inauguration has been brought forward two months as indicated on social networks. The national Constitution establishes January 10 as the start date of the presidential term. The hoax is based on a calendar designed with sarcasm regarding the beginning of Christmas on October 1, decreed by Maduro.
