MIPAD recognizes Carnival Calabar among largest global carnivals organised by people of African descent

The Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) has recognised Carnival Calabar as one of the largest and most iconic carnivals organised by people of African descent worldwide.

MIPAD aims to identify and celebrate the most influential people and events of African descent, promoting unity, empowerment, and global recognition.

This prestigious recognition underscores Carnival Calabar’s significance as a cultural showcase and tourism magnet, attracting millions of visitors annually.

As a premier cultural event known as the biggest street carnival in Africa, Carnival Calabar celebrates African heritage, creativity and unity, featuring vibrant costumes, music and performances.

MIPAD’s acknowledgment solidifies Carnival Calabar’s position alongside other prominent global carnivals, such as Trinidad and Tobago National Commission; Carnival of Salvador da Bahia, Mardi Gras, Brazil; Caribana Toronto Caribbean Carnival, Canada and Notting Hill Carnival, Kensington, UK.

This recognition highlights the essential role Carnival Calabar plays in promoting African culture, unity, and economic development.

In an interview with Travelpulse and MICE at the sideline of the 20th edition of Akwaaba African Travel Market (AfTM) help at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, the Chairman, Cross River State Carnival Commission, Dr Gab Onah said “It’s an honor to receive this recognition and we are proud to showcase Africa’s rich heritage to the world.

“I was highly impressed to receive this independent and unprecedented rating which underscore the fact that carnival Calabar has not only come of age in its innovative outing over the years but also proud of the energy the people and government have invested in its organisation.

“Carnival Calabar is not only the face of Nigeria in the international stage, but also an African pride with global relevance. This honour goes to the transition of governor of Cross River State; from the initiator; Former Governor Donaild Duke, Liyel Imoke, Benedict Ayade to the present Governor Bassey Otu.

“This is a big encouragement for us in Cross River State to do more. This year, we are also explore different avenue to see that the best is always what we present to tourists, visitors and investors alike.

“With this years’ carnival theme; Our Shared Prosperity’ and many other activities lined up for the grand event is a clear indication that the 2024 edition will be a bang, Onah added.
