Carlos Nieto, founder of A Window to Freedom, has passed away
The organization Una Ventana a la Libertad reported this Saturday, August 24, the death of its founder and general coordinator, Carlos Nieto Palma.
«Doctor Nieto Palma leaves a great legacy in the defense of the human rights of those deprived of liberty in Venezuela. We send our condolences to his family and friends. Peace to his soul,” the NGO said in the platform X.
Carlos Nieto Palma was a prominent activist and defender of human rights, especially of those arbitrarily detained in Venezuela. Various people and organizations spoke out on social media after hearing the news.
Provea, an organization allied to Una Ventana a la Libertad, sent its condolences to Nieto’s family and friends. No further details of the death were released. nor the circumstances.
The main opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform, posted: “His work documenting human rights violations in prisons has been invaluable to the country. We send our condolences to his family and friends.”
The National College of Journalists, Caracas branch, also issued a statement: “The board of directors expresses its deepest regret at the death of Dr. Carlos Nieto Palma.”
