Different NGOs denounced this Saturday, on the occasion of the Indigenous Resistance Daya “deterioration” of the “living conditions” of the indigenous peoples in the country, for which they demanded that the State “urgently” attend to these groups.

The NGO Fundaredes warned that, “over the years, systematic violations against the Venezuelan indigenous population have intensified and worsened, reflecting serious violations of their human rights.”

In that sense, he pointed out, through a message in X, that the rights to “health, education, dignified life, security” and to «stable economy have been undermined».

«While communities face a deteriorated environment due to extractive activities and the militarization of their territories, violence from irregular armed groups, restricted access to food and structural discrimination are added. Our ancestral population must receive the respect and protection they need,” he added.

For its part, the NGO Provide He assured that the living conditions of indigenous peoples “worsened significantly during 2023, due to the lack of adequate public policies, the excessive advance of extractive activities and the control of criminal groups over their territories.”

«This deterioration has left a balance of violence, poverty and persecution that increasingly violate the rights of these indigenous peoples,” the organization said.

Urgent care for indigenous peoples

Therefore, he asserted that this “critical” situation “requires urgent attention from the State”, since – he added – as long as they continue to “face violence, poverty and exclusion”, the “original communities have nothing to celebrate.”

Nicolás Maduro asked this Saturday “consolidate all plans” related to housing, health and education for these people, as well as working on “the organization of indigenous youth.”

Also, he ordered the Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Clara Vidal, to rescue the languages of these groups for “the continuity” of the culture of “the true owners of these lands.”

This Saturday, more than a thousand people, the vast majority of them Chavistas, mobilized in Caracas to commemorate the Day of Indigenous Resistance and reject the “genocide” that – they claim – Spain committed in the 15th century in America.

Previously, the Venezuelan Government, which insists that Spain “should ask for forgiveness every day”, urged to “keep alive” the history of “fight and resistance” indigenous people in the face of the “most ferocious aggression known to humanity”, and to promote “channels to make effective the recognition, justice and reparation of these crimes against humanity.”
