Vandana Mohit, MP for Chaguanas East, has voiced concern over the recent surge in crime and kidnappings affecting  Cunupia. She’s urging the Ministry of National Security to take “immediate and decisive action”  to restore safety and security for residents in light of alarming reports, including allegations of police involvement in criminal activities.

“The peace and security we once enjoyed are under threat. Residents are living in fear, and it’s imperative that we act swiftly to address these challenges.” Mohit said.

She calls for a comprehensive action plan that includes increased police presence in high-crime areas and initiatives to rebuild trust between law enforcement and the community.

“We cannot allow individuals to tarnish the reputation of the police force,” she said. “A thorough investigation into any allegations of misconduct must take place, and those guilty must be held accountable.”

She encouraged residents to remain vigilant and to share information with law enforcement, emphasising the importance of community involvement in the fight against crime.

Mohit also expressed her condolences to families affected by recent criminal acts. “The trauma of living under the shadow of violence is a burden no one should bear,” she said.
