Four persons were arrested, three firearms were seized, and quantities of cannabis were destroyed by police officers as they carried out anti-crime exercises across the country over the past two days.

A release from the Police Service reports that on Monday 14 October 2024, officers of the Arima Police Station on exercise went to the Carapo home of a female suspect.

There, they conducted a search, which resulted in the discovery of one Smith and Wesson revolver that was hidden inside a blue plastic barrel.

The suspect was on the premises at the time and was arrested in connection with the find.

During an exercise in the Central Division yesterday, a blue Mitsubishi Lancer motor vehicle was intercepted at Church Street, Couva, around 9:15 pm.

A search of the vehicle led to police officers finding one pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.

The driver, a 22-year-old of Chaguanas, was arrested in connection with the find.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Division, officers of the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department and Canine Branch carried out an exercise in the Mayaro district between 2:30 pm and 6:30 pm, on Monday.

Officers proceeded to a track located off Guayaguayare Road, where they found a cannabis field containing some 250 fully grown trees and approximately 750 seedlings.

The plants were subsequently destroyed.

And on Sunday 13 October 2024, officers of the Western Division Task Force were conducting an exercise between 2:15 pm and 5 pm, during which they responded to a report of several men in the Petit Valley district wearing camouflage outfits and armed with assault rifles.

According to the Police Service statement, the officers went to a forested area where the men reportedly were last seen.

There, the officers found a structure concealed by vines and black construction plastic. Upon entering the structure, they found a high-tech hydroponics system with over 100 cannabis plants.

The plants were subsequently destroyed.

The TTPS says checks of the surrounding area resulted in the discovery of one pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the finds—a 37-year-old of Glencoe, and a 31-year-old of Maraval.
