Relatives of Gabriel Jules lost track of just how many times they had begged him to get out of the gang life.

They remember warning him that nothing good would come of it, but to their dismay, he ignored their pleas.

Their worst fears were realised around 7.45 pm on October 13, after gunmen opened fire on Jules, 21, at Ravine Road, Petit Valley.

Police said Jules, who lived close to where he was killed, had been shot along a dirt track in the vicinity of a mini-mart.

A female relative tearfully revealed, “We used to beg him to change his life, come out of the gang thing completely but he never take heed.”

Speaking with reporters on Monday outside of the Forensic Science Centre, St James yesterday, the woman who asked not to be named, said, “The youths really need to know what they want now cause is only one life they have, and they giving it away a little too free.”

The relative said Jules had been uncontrollable as a teenager and had been placed with an aunt next door.

“He was a nice person but he was misled after he fell in with the wrong company.”

The woman said, “I tired talking to him. I used to cry after him, begging him to stop doing whatever they were doing and come out of the gang thing. I didn’t like it at all but all I coulda do is just talk.”

She called on parents to speak to their children every day and not give up on them.

She begged, “The youths need to change their life and put it to God.”
