Two women lost their lives in a car crash near the entrance of LeGrand Hotel in Black Rock, Tobago, early this morning.

One of the victims has been identified as Alliyah Williams, while the second has been confirmed as Makeda Fraser.

TTPS Road Safety Coordinator Brent Batson said this is a sad day for Tobago, noting that it marks Tobago’s ninth road fatality for the year, up from six during the same period in 2023.

Batson said he is still awaiting further details, but this tragedy brings the national road death toll to 87, compared to 85 for the same period last year.

“This comes just after the fatal incident in Mayaro yesterday, where a woman was killed by an SUV driver who lost control of the vehicle. These deaths are particularly heartbreaking because they are preventable.”

Batson spoke of the ongoing efforts of the police and road safety organizations like Arrive Alive to curb dangerous behaviors on the road.

“Speeding, failure to wear seatbelts, and driving under the influence remain major threats to road safety. While we continue to enforce the law, drivers must understand that unsafe driving can quickly lead to serious injury or death, as we have sadly witnessed today in Tobago.”
