A 21-year-old man allegedly struck and killed an elderly man on a bicycle with his car after he mistook him for a bandit who had robbed him.

Upon impact, Azaan Khan, 78, was slammed against a wall and landed in a drain where he died, a few houses away from his home in Butler Village, Carapichaima on Friday.

Police enquiries revealed that around 7:30 pm the driver was watching television at his home in Butler Village when a gunman robbed him of his cellphones and money.

The driver jumped in his car and went in search of the bandit.
Khan was on his way home when he slammed into him. The car stalled a short distance away, and the driver returned home. He eventually surrendered to the police.

Khan’s daughter Alisha said for the past few months a man on a bicycle has been robbing people in the neighbourhood.

She, however, wants the man who killed Khan to face criminal charges.
