They arrested a member of the Danish Council for Refugees in Venezuela

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) confirmed the arrest of one of its membersof Colombian nationality, this Friday, October 18 in Venezuela.

According to a release issued by the organization, the employee had entered the country to carry out scheduled tasks related to his humanitarian work, without any political involvement.

The DRC stressed that it is exploring all possible avenues to resolve the situation, remaining firm in its principle of neutrality and impartiality. The organization, dedicated to providing humanitarian assistance in crisis areas, emphasized that its mission in Venezuela is help the most vulnerable communitieswithout getting involved in political or security affairs of the country.

Arrest of Danish Council worker in Venezuela occurs in a context of tension

It should be noted that the arrest of this worker occurs in a context of growing tension within the country. In recent days, Chavismo has intensified the arrests of foreigners, accusing them of conspiring against Nicolás Maduro.

In fact, last Thursday, Diosdado Cabello reported on the capture of 19 foreigners supposedly involved in a plan to assassinate the president and destabilize the country.

He explained that among those detained are 2 Colombians, 3 Americans (one of them with dual Bolivian nationality), a Peruvian and a Lebanese. In addition, he noted that these arrests are in addition to those of another 4 Americans, 2 Spaniards and a Czech citizen, who were arrested in September.

The identity and whereabouts of the Danish Refugee Council worker have not been revealed, and the organization continues to make efforts to secure his release.
