Police capture “El Vítico”, murderer of Claudio Fermín’s son

On Thursday, members of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) managed to capture Víctor Manuel Méndez Morillo, alias “El Vítico”, who is the material author of the murder of Alejandro Fermín, son of the political leader and former presidential candidate Claudio Fermin.

During an operation in the Ojo de Chávez urban development, between Lecuna and Bolívar avenues in Caracas, PNB officials captured “el Vítico”, who had been on the run for yearsas reported by the journalist Roman Camacho.

Police officers, who were carrying out investigation work in the area, detained an individual who identified himself as John Escalona. However, due to his nervous attitude, they took him to the police headquarters where they questioned him and discovered that he was not the person he said he was.

When checking the correct identity of Méndez Morillo in the Police Investigation and Information System (Siipol), they discovered that hewanted for several crimesamong them the murder of Alejandro Fermín.

Méndez Morillo had escaped from Yare I in 2010 and, until now, was one of the most wanted according to Camacho.

Murder of Alejandro Fermín

Alejandro Fermín was murdered in the early morning of February 4, 2013 in Los Chorros, when he arrived at his residence and criminals tried to steal his car. He died at the scene with a gunshot wound to the neck.

José Gregorio Sierralta, who was then director of the Cicpc, pointed out that the author of the shot that killed Fermín was “El Vítico”, leader of a gang dedicated to car theft. His accomplice was identified as Néstor Escalona Carrera.
