Jamaica on target to defend CGA 4-Ball Golf Championship

Jamaica were in a commanding position and on target to defend their Caribbean Golf Association’s 4-Ball title after two rounds of play in Trinidad and Tobago at the Plantain Golf and Country Club.

If Jamaica go on to win the championship it would be their fifth straight win of the 4-Ball championship having won it in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Jamaica have amassed 46 points so far in the six-trophy competition and lead the host country Trinidad and Tobago by eight points. Bermuda were in third on 25 points, with Bahamas breathing down their neck on 24 points. Barbados were in fifth place on 16 points and the Cayman Islands on six points in sixth place.

With just one more round left to play, Jamaica are leading in three trophy categories, tied for first in one, tied for second in one and in fifth place in another.

Jamaica with seven points were leading Bermuda who were on five points, for the Francis & Steele-Perkins Cup.

There was another two point difference for Jamaica (6) to take the lead ahead of Bahamas (4) for the Higgs and Higgs Trophy.

There was a similar two–point difference for Jamaica (4) above Trinidad and Tobago (2) for the Dessie Henry Trophy for mid amateur ladies .

Jamaica were tied for first place with Trinidad and Tobago for the Maria Nunes Trophy with both teams having four points each. The trophy is for senior ladies.

The newest category, the Ashraph Ali Cup for men over 70 years saw Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago tying for second place on two points each. The Bahamas were the category leader on four points.

The sixth and final category, the Ramon Baez Romano Trophy showed Jamaica in fifth place on one point while Bermuda were enjoying first place on six points.

Jamaica’s largest contingent of 20 golfers were playing the third and final round on Sunday with the resolve to take home the championship for a fifth consecutive time.
