Venezuela’s democratic opposition commemorates the first anniversary of the primary elections in which María Corina Machado was chosen as the presidential candidate.

In a message published by the group, the Unitary Platform expressed: «The primary election was a milestone in the democratic history of Venezuela which today we commemorate, one year after its completion, more convinced than ever that Venezuelans want change and we achieve it with the force of the vote.

The primary elections, held on October 22, 2023, constituted a significant event for the democratic opposition, as it brought together various sectors under the same objective: to offer the population a viable alternative to the current government.

María Corina Machado, leader of the Vente Venezuela movement, won this contest by obtaining the majority support of voters (more than 90% support). His victory represented renewed hope for many Venezuelans who long for political change in the country and to participate in the presidential elections on July 28.

However, the road to the presidential election was marked by challenges.

In an attempt to discredit the process, the Supreme Court of Justice, which responds to the interests of Nicolás Maduro, issued a ruling that questioned the legitimacy of the primary elections, and also alleged irregularities in its organization.

Over time, and given the impossibility of María Corina Machado presenting her candidacy for the presidential election due to a disqualification ratified against her, new dynamics and new names became known.

As the elections approached, the possibility of alternative candidacies was raised and, given the obstacles imposed to register Corina Yoris, in the process Edmundo González, recognized for his extensive career in the political field, emerged as a strong option for defeat Chavismo.

«This is until the end»

Maria Corina Machado He also celebrated the democratic participation of Venezuelans in the primaries and confirmed that their fight against the socialist regime is “until the end.”

«One year. A day that changed our history. The primaries of October 22, 2023 opened the way to unstoppable forces.
We did it together, we did it very well. We gave ourselves a mandate and we fulfilled it on July 28. We will make this mandate prevail. “This is until the end,” wrote the leader in X.
