GNB seizes three tons of cocaine that were going to be transported on a Conviasa plane

Officials of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) They seized three tons of cocaine from Colombia that were intended to be transported on a Colombian plane. Venezuelan state airline Conviasa to Russia, and then to Afghanistan, the government announced on Sunday.

In the social network Xthe Minister of Transportation, Ramón Velásquez, indicated that, thanks to the timely intervention of GNB officers, the shipment of the drugs was thwarted.

According to the official, a criminal gang with tentacles in a Colombian coffee company intended to “fill a Conviasa plane with three tons of cocaine, in coffee packages, to take to Russia, and then use a Turkish Cargo plane to take it to Afghanistan.”

“They are criminal minds who dream of harming the people of Venezuela. They have not been able to do so and they will not be able to do so,” said the minister, who denied that the president of Emtrasur – a subsidiary of Conviasa -, César Pérez Salas, is in custody, a fake news that – he said – is circulating on criminal social networks.

GNB has seized more than 25,000 kilos of drugs

According to the National Anti-Drug Superintendence (Sunad), Venezuelan authorities confiscated a total of 25,186 kilos of drugs during the first six months of the yearwhen they also arrested 6,196 people for crimes related to this type of substances.

Last year, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) and various security forces seized a total of 52,186.8 kilos of drugs, 10% more than the 47,264.8 kilos in 2022, according to Sunad.
