Machado asks Petro for more action on Venezuela

The Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado asked the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, to take definitive actions against the questioned elections of July 28 in which the National Electoral Council (CNE) proclaimed Nicolás Maduro as the winner, in a disputed victory that the opposition says Edmundo González won.

«To the government of Colombia, especially President Petro: It is time for definitions. Silence is no longer an option in the face of what is happening in Venezuela,” he said. Machado this Tuesday in a plenary session of the Colombian Senate.

Machado, who intervened from clandestinity in a videoconference, added that “the transition (in his country) is inevitable and with the participation of his Government (Petro’s) we are willing to go through a constructive transition that is based on respect for sovereignty national expressed on June 28.

The politician participated in the session because several Colombian congressmen invited her to express her position on what is happening in Venezuela, mired in a political, social and economic crisis.

“Today I intervene from clandestinity because the Maduro regime has accused me of terrorism and also of perpetrating sabotage against the Venezuelan electoral system,” said the Venezuelan opponent.

In his speech, Machado assured that what happened in the elections is a fact known in the world that cannot be refuted because “the truth and the evidence are irrefutable, the time is now, not after the regime is imposed by force.” .

«We know that we won with an overwhelming majority, all Venezuelans, the witnesses, the electoral experts know it, including the Carter Center that was in this honorable venue a few weeks ago. Maduro carried out a coup d’état and now intends to endorse this coup on January 1, the day that constitutionally corresponds to the elected president Edmundo González who takes office,” he said.

On the other hand, he also assured that the peace that Colombia seeks depends on deep changes in Venezuela at all levels.
