Tobago Carnival kicks off, TEMA activates emergency plan
Carnival festivities in Tobago kicked off today, Friday, October 25, with several events starting from as early as 12am on the island.
The ‘Monarch of Mas’ is expected to begin at 8pm and come tomorrow morning, anticipation is expected for the ‘Mud Festival’ at Shaw Park, along with Tobago ‘Dutty J’Ouvert’ in Scarborough.
From 9pm tomorrow until 2am on Sunday, ‘Night Mas’ is expected to take place followed by the Parade of the Bands along with other activities straight until Monday afternoon.
As a result of the activities, the Tobago Emergency Management Authority (TEMA) says it has activated the Joint Operations Command Centre (JOC) and Venue Operations Centre (VOC) in Scarborough together with its Emergency Partners.
TEMA says these centers will coordinate efforts for safety, security, and medical support, including roving medical teams and staffed medical stations along the parade route.
It says in case of any incidents, lost children, or emergencies, the centers are prepared to provide prompt assistance.
TEMA says in addition that CERT 1000 Strong volunteers will also be on-site, ready to support operations alongside our emergency responders.
Location for Sites of Care are as follows:
- Advanced Medical Posts-Old First Citizens Car Park, Scarborough
- Medical Station-Shaw Park Cultural Complex
- Medical Outpost/Ambulance-Claude Noel Highway adjacent to the Pentecostal School
- Medical Outpost/Ambulance-Market Square Car Park, Scarborough.
Medical teams will also be roving along the parade routes to provide immediate treatment for any injuries or accidents that may occur.
