Merner magnificent in Maritime Breeder’s

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Harness racing driver Adam Merner was firing on all cylinders as he snagged four wins on the second half of a special Maritime Breeder’s Saturday program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Cape Breton native started the winning in race 2 in a $20,250 Maritime Breeder’s three-year-old pacing filly dash with Miss Dutton (Rollwithitharry) in a 1:56.3 final clocking over Fern Hill Indigo (Driven by Brodie MacPhee) and U No Peach (Kenny Arsenault). Kuri White trains the winning daughter of Rollwithitharry to her third straight win for owner Shoulda Been Onabeach Stable of Charlottetown.

Downtown Tonight was another Merner driven winner in a $20,250 Maritime Breeder’s three-year-old pacing filly division at 10-1 odds in 1:56 over race favourite Zendayas Firstlady (Myles Heffernan Sr.) while Windemere Saddy (Marc Campbell) was third. Tom Weatherbie trains the Shanghai Phil lass for owners Cam and Gordon MacPhee.

Merner’s third Maritime Breeder’s prize was in a $28,500 Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s three-year-old pacing colt division as he converted a two-hole trip with Merigo Magic to glory in 1:54.3 as he snapped Tobins Chester’s (Jason Hughes) win streak at five. Merner trains the Tobago Cays colt for Mike May, Herman Mcquaid, Derrick Cameron and Ian Walker. Swordfromthestone (Marc Campbell) completed the triactor.

Merner also won an overnight dash with Well Said Celeb (Well Said) from his own barn in 1:55.2 for four wins on the program.

In other action, Atlantic Breeder’s Crown champion Galway Girl (Marc Campbell) went all the way in her $20,250 Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s division for sophomore fillies from the Brent Campbell stable for owners Brady Doyle, Jacinta Campbell, Bernard MacDonald and Kent MacDonald. Time of the mile was 1:56.2 as First Filly Chip (Corey MacPherson) finished second with Rollwithitdarling (Paul Langille) third.

The other $28,500 Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s three-year-old pacing colt split saw Jackies Boy (Tobago Cays) (Myles Heffernan Sr.) hold on to win in 1:55.1 in a neck decision over Howmac General (Langille). Little Leroy (MacPherson) was third. Myles Heffernan Jr., owns and trains the winning son of Tobago Cays.

Acefortyfour Dome scored a mild upset at 8-1 odds in the $14,650 Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series Final, presented by Standardbred Canada, for driver Hughes, trainer Ashley Gamester and owner Donald MacRae. Time of the mile was 1:54.1 with Pasta Momma (Marc Campbell) second and Sugar Bowl (Gilles Barrieau) third.
