National Security Minister: New TTPS Task Force In Keeping With Best Practice

National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds says the dismantling of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) was done by the Acting Police Commissioner McDonald Jacob, saying it is ‘best practice.’

At today’s sitting of the Senate, Minister Hinds steered clear of questions from the Opposition saying there was no political interference in the decision, and added that the Police Service is constantly engaged in observation and practice, learning from international organisations.

The announcement of the dismantling of SORT came earlier this week and Mr. Jacob said more will be revealed about the new unit, the National Operations Task Force (NOTF), by month’s end.

Minister Hinds though said the move was solely done by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

Minister Hinds said the National Operations Task Force is not entirely new, but was activated on this occasion.
