Spanish journalists condemn the arrest of informants in Venezuela

The Federation of Associations of Journalists of Spain (FAPE) and the Madrid Press Association (APM) have condemned this Wednesday the arrests of journalists in Venezuela and have demanded their release, while They condemn the maneuvers of the Nicolás Maduro regime against the media.

Spanish journalists’ associations express their solidarity with the at least eight journalists arrested by Venezuelan police forces in the days following the elections on 28 July, as well as with the other four journalists arrested during the pre-election campaign.

The FAPE joins the Federation of Journalists of Latin America and the Caribbean (FEPALC) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), to which it belongs, which in a statement reiterate their concern about the continuation of arrests of journalists and press workers after the elections in Venezuela and They demand the release of their arrested colleagues.

According to the National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) of Venezuela, 12 journalists remain in prison, of which at least four have been charged with the crime of “terrorism.”

On Monday, the union warned on social media about an “illegal and arbitrary use of anti-terrorism laws (…), especially against journalists and photojournalists detained during post-election protests.”
