Maduro and opposition highlight Venezuela-US relationship
After Trump’s victory, the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, expressed that, although “it did not go well” in the first government of the American businessman (2017-2021) – who did not recognize it then -, he hopes that this will be a “new beginning” so that both countries bet on a “win-win” relationship.
Machado told Trump that Venezuela is experiencing “decisive days” after the presidential elections on July 28, in which Maduro won a controversial victory, which is not recognized by Washington.
He took the opportunity to reiterate his complaint of fraud in the official result of the Venezuelan elections, rejected by the main opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), which claims that its candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, defeated Maduro at the polls.
