Opponents ask Maduro to manage the release of those detained after the elections

Venezuelan opponents asked this Wednesday the head of state, Nicolás Maduro, to manage the release of the people who were detained after the presidential elections on July 28, especially the 69 minors who are part of that group, according to estimates by non-governmental organizations.

In a letter, 32 people, almost all of them political activists, tell the president – whose July re-election has been accused of being fraudulent by the majority opposition – that the Constitution “provides him with different mechanisms to advance the solution of this situation.” generated after a wave of arrests that the Executive estimates at 2,400, while NGOs have documented 1,848 cases.

“We propose from a humanitarian measure, through the (…) political amnesty (granted by) the National Assembly (Parliament) and even the option of presidential pardons in cases that are considered necessary,” says the text, signed -among others- by the former presidential candidate Enrique Marquez.

Opponents ask Maduro to “consider and review each of these cases, as well as the actions of the police forces and the justice system,” as they believe that in the context of the post-election crisis, marked by citizen protests and police operations, There were “serious systematic violations” of the Constitution regarding human rights.

Ecarri requests urgent pardon for imprisoned teenagers

Former presidential candidate Antonio Ecarri urged Maduro to pardon the detained teenagers, whose mothers have led numerous protests in recent weeks.

“Proceed to a procedural pardon, you have the constitutional power (…) there are young people and children in prison and their future is being harmed, immediately grant (the pardons) so that these children are released immediately,” Ecarri said in a video he shared through X.
