The Venezuelan political party Convergencia demanded this Sunday the release of its national coordinator, Biagio Pilieriafter 80 days of being detained after participating in a protest called by the main opposition coalition, Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), against the official result of the presidential elections on July 28.
«Our national coordinator, Biagio Pilieri, father, husband and tireless leader, remains unjustly detained, but his strength is also ours»noted the training in a publication in X.
He added that he continues to raise his voice “more strongly” to demand the freedom of the former deputy.
“80 days have passed full of injustice, pain and silence,” Convergence added.
Biagio Pilieri case
Pilieri was arrested on August 28 after participating in a protest called by the PUD, in rejection of the ruling of the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) that validated the controversial re-election of Nicolas Maduro in the presidential elections, as opponents denounced at the time.
The opposition indicated that the former deputy was captured after two vehicles and two motorcycles allegedly chased him through Caracas.
One day after the arrest, Convergencia reported that officials from the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin) raided Pilieri’s residence, in the state of Yaracuy (west).
On September 5, his wife, María Livia Vasile, reported in X that Pilieri was accused of five crimes: “conspiracy, association to commit a crime, instigation of hatred, terrorism and treason.”
Opposition leaders and NGOs demand daily, through social networks, the “immediate” release of those detained for “political” reasons, among whom they include the nearly 170 militants and party activists who – they denounce – are behind bars. .
