Penal Forum has verified the release of 143 people

The NGO Foro Penal, which leads the defense of those considered political prisoners in Venezuela, indicated this Monday that it has registered and verified the release of 143 people linked to the protests against the official result of the presidential elections of July 28.

Through a publication on Instagram, the president of the NGO, Alfredo Romero, indicated that of the total number of those released, which he has been able to document, 10 are minors and 133 are adults, 5 women and 128 men.

The activist shared a photograph of the Miranda state prison, Yare III, in which he indicated that relatives spend the nights outside the prison grounds waiting for more releases.

This weekend, there were several releases from prisons in the country, after a review – requested by the Public Ministry (MP, Prosecutor’s Office) – of the cases of detainees in the context of crisis after the July 28 elections, marked by numerous protests against the proclaimed re-election of Nicolás Maduro and police operations.

On Saturday, the attorney general, Tarek William Saab, assured that Between Friday afternoon and Saturday, 225 freedom measures were “granted and executed” – about which he did not give details. to people detained after protests against the official result of the last elections.

This Monday, the Venezuelan Prisons Observatory (OVP) asked the State to publish an official list of political prisoners who have been released in the last few days.

Through a press release, the director of the OVP, Humberto Prado, requested this official list, in compliance with the right to information established in article 51 of the Constitution, “which ensures that every person has the right to address requests to authorities and receive timely responses.
