GEORGETOWN, Guyana–In a message to celebrate the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’s 62nd anniversary of Independence on August 31, Caribbean Community CARICOM Secretary General (SG) Dr. Carla Barnett lauds the country’s contribution in the international arena as well as its consistent efforts to ensure that climate change remains at the forefront of the global agenda, according to a press release from the CARICOM Secretariat.
Trinidad and Tobago’s work on the strengthening the multilateral system, including comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council, also receives recognition.
While congratulating the republic, the SG adds, “Trinidad and Tobago continues to create an indelible imprint on the world through music, literature, art and sports. The rhythms and melodies associated with the steel pan, the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago, reverberate globally.”
SG Dr. Barnett recognises Trinidad’s role as President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in her message, as wells as its steadfast advocacy for comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council, the release states.
“As CARICOM states continue to face new and evolving challenges, your leadership on Energy and Security within the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet remains crucial in ensuring the safety, stability and sustainable development of the Region,” Dr. Barnett states, concluding with wishes for “the continued prosperity of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.”
