They denounce jaguar hunting in the Sierra de Perijá
Environmentalists denounced on Friday the hunting of a jaguar in the state of Zulia. They affirm that this type of actions causes an ecological imbalance that has consequences even on the region’s water reserves.
Through the Instagram account Raccoon Ecoadventure reported the hunting of a jaguar in the Sierra de Perijáin an area one hour from Maracaibo. “We are concerned about the frequency of these crimes and the impunity with which they are carried out,” the publication reads.
In a video broadcast on the account they showed images of the transfer of the jaguar’s body.
They claim that the jaguar had been spotted prowling the area, but without causing any inconvenience. They asked the Minister of Ecosocialism, Josue Lorca, to appoint a commission to stop ecocides.
One of the activists, who speaks in a voice-over in the video released, said: “We cannot allow the farmer to arrive, kill the jaguar, kill his prey, deforest, change the vegetation and introduce his domestic animals that make our fauna sick. wild. “A whole host of negative actions that break the water cycle.”
He explained that “predators like the jaguar, the puma, the cunaguaro cannot disappear for the simple reason that they keep herbivore populations at bay. The farmers deforest, they destroy all the tall trees and the herbivores do not allow them to be restored because they eat all the vegetation that grows.”
