Cop among three shot in Tobago

An off-duty police officer was among three persons shot yesterday afternoon in Tobago. 

The incident took place just after midday in Goodwood. 

There was said to be a commotion in the community during which the police sergeant attempted to detain the suspect to keep the peace. 

The man got violent and allegedly reached for the sergeant’s gun which was at his side. 

The weapon went off, and the police officer was shot in the arm. 

The struggle continued and the officer was able to regain control of the firearm. 

The suspect was shot, and another man who was also nearby – who had also attempted to intervene – was shot in the shoulder. 

The officer then called for back-up and the three injured men were taken to the Scarborough General Hospital for treatment. Their conditions are all said to be stable.
