An autopsy has found that Reshma Peters died from blunt force trauma after being attacked.

Speaking to Guardian Media yesterday, Peters’ mother, Kelowtie Ramnarine, said her daughter’s body bore multiple chop wounds.

“They beat her and chop her. The autopsy showed they hit her on her head. They killed my daughter,” Ramnarine said.

Peters’ funeral is scheduled to take place today at her brother’s home at Transfer Village, Penal.

Peters, 45, who lived on Wilson Road, was found face down under an oil line at Mohess Road Extension on Sunday, roughly 15 hours after she and her companion, Samlal, were attacked. Her body showed injuries to the head, hip, and right leg.

Samlal, 36, a scrap iron labourer, suffered a single chop wound to the back of his head during the attack. Speaking at the scene, Samlal recounted the events of that night. He remembered walking with Peters along Mohess Road Extension near the Heritage Production GN4 Tank Farm No. 4 around 7 pm on Saturday when a car suddenly pulled up. A masked man emerged and struck Samlal on the head, causing him to black out.

When Samlal regained consciousness about ten minutes later, he began searching for Peters but the darkness made it difficult to see anything. Covered in blood, he stumbled to a nearby poultry shop, where he alerted neighbours. His sister, Esther Samlal, took him to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he was treated and discharged on Monday.

No one has yet been arrested for the murder. Anyone with information on the incident can contact Crimestoppers at 800-TIPS.
