Trinidad and Tobago  and Canada celebrate 62 years of diplomatic relations

Trinidad and Tobago and Canada are celebrating 62 years of diplomatic relations, which coincides with Trinidad and Tobago’s 62nd Independence Day. 

“The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and the High Commission of Canada wish Trinidad and Tobago a joyous Independence Day and look forward to continuing excellent relations between our two countries” 

In a joint statement from both Trinidad and Tobago and Canada, officials said  both countries share a commitment to democracy and human rights. Recent cooperation in women, peace, and security is helping Trinidad and Tobago develop its national action plan. The expansion of visa-free travel for Trinidad and Tobago citizens is also strengthening business and educational ties.

Canada was one of first countries to recognize Trinidad and Tobago’s independence.
