At least 18 teenagers arrested during protests in Venezuela were released on Saturday. The information was published by the NGO Criminal Forum.

Alfredo Romero, director of the organization, indicated some details on his account on X. «At this moment, several teenagers detained in post-election situations (since June 29) are being released from prison in different states of the country,» wrote.

Gonzalo Himiob, vice-president of Foro Penal, also spoke about these releases. “After hearings held in Táchira and Portuguesa, 12 adolescents (men) and 1 adolescent (woman) were released under precautionary measures in Táchira and 5 adolescents (men) in Portuguesa,” he wrote.

In Venezuela, the arrest of minors during protests has been denounced. Several organisations and politicians have called this situation to a halt.

On Thursday, a total of 16 teenagers were released from the more than 100 detained following the presidential elections on July 28 in Venezuela, according to the NGO.

From the Palace of Justice in Caracas, “four female adolescents and 12 male adolescents who had been deprived of liberty” in the Venezuelan capital “since July 29 due to the post-election situation were released,” said the NGO, which now counts 98 minors still detained.

Himiob told EFE that the 16 were released under precautionary measures.

To date, Foro Penal reports 1,780 people have been arrested in the context of the protests.
