Carter stars again for Barbados

The SigniaGlobe Financial Inc. Barbados U17s recorded a victory by six wickets in their first full match vs Jamaica in the West Indies Rising Stars Men’s U17 50 over Competition.

After suffering three consecutive no-decisions because of rain, Barbados were finally able to get a day’s play at the Inshan Ali Park in Trinidad and Tobago.

Jamaica took first knock after they lost the toss and were able to claw their way to a manageable total of 177 all out in 47.3 overs.

Odane Binns top scored with 43 runs in 83 balls while Demarco Scott made 20 in 42 balls.

For the Barbados bowling unit, left arm spinner Zachary Carter led the way with three wickets for 36 runs in his 10 overs, Jakeem Pollard and Joshua Dorne chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Barbados were off to a solid start as their opening batters Carter and Demarko Wiggins built a partnership of 104 runs.

Carter was first to go for a well played 57 runs in 56 balls, which included two fours and three sixes. Wiggins followed shortly after for a solid 40 runs with the total now 114/2.

The Joshuas, Dorne and Branch, put together a 46 run partnership to take the defending champs closer to their target. Dorne lost his wicket for 29, 160/3.

Barbados lost their fourth wicket, Micah Greenidge, for four, with the score on 164. Branch finished on 23 while Kevion Newton scored eight as they safely reached their revised target of 175/4 in 37.2 overs to claim victory.

Barbados will take on Trinidad and Tobago on Monday in the final game of the 50 over tournament.
