On the afternoon of Sunday, September 1, Jesús Eduardo Romero, an instrumentalist worker at CVG Venalum, was arrested by the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin).

According to the testimony of company employees, Romero was arrested for his alleged responsibility in the filming of videos spread on social networks, where explosions can be seen at the plantas a result of the maneuvers carried out to reactivate the state aluminum company’s cells after the blackout of August 30.

The videos filmed by the Venalum worker were widely shared on social media, sparking criticism of the management and state of the company, which is currently operating at less than 30% of its capacity.

The post was allegedly the reason for the employee’s arrest, while several posts on the state-owned company’s social media denied the existence of any problem, and attributed the video to the nervousness of an employee.

The Venezuelan Corporation of Guayana reported this Sunday that the president of the holding company, Hector Silva, toured Venalum and supervised the start-up of the company after the blackout, stating via press release, that it was possible to “demonstrate the plant’s operation and normalization.”
